What is “Girls on the Run?”

We are extremely excited to announce that “Girls on the Run” is being brought to our community!  “Girls on the Run” is a national, life-changing, non-profit prevention program, and we are inviting all girls from grades 3rd- 5th to participate.

The vision of “Girls on the Run” is a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. In order to accomplish this, our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program.  We will teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

Girls on the Run of the DFW Metroplex is an Independent Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of over 200 councils across the United States and Canada.

Details for Argyle Participants:

Meet Days:  The specific meeting times are still TBD, and are flexible to the needs of your families.  Our goal is to find a way to make it possible for all girls who desire or need this outlet to have it!  We believe whole-heartedly in the importance of combining physical, mental and emotional wellness, especially during these developmental pre-teen years, which is exactly what this program does!  We plan to meet directly after school for 1.5 hours, 2 days per week.  Practices will start the week of February 16th, and our first 5K will be Saturday, April 30th in Grand Prairie.

What Happens When We Meet?

We will talk about friendship, kindness, healthy eating, exercise and so much more.  And of course we will be running toward our goal of competing in local 5K races.  All fitness levels are welcome, from girls who have never participated in sports, to those who are active everyday.  We will work with the individual’s current abilities and fitness level.
